Just a little over a year ago, I rediscovered my artistic side.
I felt the drive to create, but didn't know where to start.
Her Art Journaling 101, really explained how to create an Art Journal, to someone who didn't know where to start.
When I saw Creativity Challenge,I thought I would jump in and be a Radar Love Challenge Host, along with the fabulous artist, Gem.
Recently I started a blog, as a way to connect with the artistic community and post what I've created.
I've been so busy creating, taking painting classes, and making new friends, that I haven't posted much.
So here is my chance to just do it!
To stop pinning on Pinterest, and create, instead of admiring what everyone else has created.
For months I've been collecting pins on creating my own stamps Stamp Making, but thought it would be difficult to carve stamps.Today I got out the materials I ordered, and got to work.
Funny how once you take the first step, the rest is easy!
and decided to carve a flower by tracing the one on the instruction sheet
I traced with a pencil, and placed the paper upside down on the rubber. I rubbed the image with my bone folder, and it transferred easily. No need to rub with pencil on the backside of the tracing paper, as some tutorials suggest.
I was surprised at how easy it was to use the carving tool!
By using a steady pressure and keeping it level, the rubber cut like butter.
You don't have to press hard or cut deep.
I used the smaller blade to cut around the lines, and the large blade to cut away the excess rubber.
Hurray, my first stamp!
There was no stopping me, I couldn't stop carving:) Photo corners, banners, chevrons and grass stamps.
Test your stamps by inking up, and seeing if any minor corrections are needed.
Have fun and keep creating! Check out the other fabulous challenge posts here Day 1 Challenge Queue.
Wow! Great stamps you've created here.
ReplyDeleteWhat you said about taking the first step is so right.I too have many ideas in my mind but needs a push to take that first step...Thanks to Tammy for coming up with this challenge. Stamping is in my mind too. Your post makes it look so easy.
It was easy, and erasers are fun too.
DeleteIf only i could draw like you!
Wow, good job, you are really on the (Speed)ball! I am your cohosting partner for Tammy's Creativity Challenge Day One, and while it wasn't my actual to-do for to-day I have already tackled a long(LONG) overdue project- redoing my blogheader. (I recently migrated my old Blogspot blog over to Wordpress and we are currently locked in an armwrestling match for control ;-P I think he's winning so far ...) Anyway, congrats on getting your stamp carving project AND your blogpost done - now you are free to keep on carving :)
ReplyDelete~ gem ~
Thanks Gem,your art is fabulous!
DeleteI'm so glad you tried making your stamps Vicki! I learned how to last month and it is totally addicting. I love your corner stamps...brilliant. Your story sounds very similar to mine. I took 10 or so years off of creating, signed up for a workshop in September, joined Art Everyday in November and the rest is history! Thanks for hosting today!! xx
ReplyDeleteYes, all we needed was a jump start!
DeleteHappy creating!
Yep, it's just getting started sometimes, isn't it? This challenge is great motivation and your gonna have lots of fun with these stamps. I foresee the possibility of lots of mix and match patterns.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carlene, i thought I would mix and match all the little texture stamps.
DeleteThanks for your comment.
I never new stamps were so easy to create. If I did not already have a ton, I'd be jumping to do this. I just started art journaling, one entry so far includes some stamps you may be inspiring me to add more.
ReplyDeleteWe can always use more stamps!
DeleteHave fun!
These are so cool! I always have thought- "if I just had a stamp for that"? Love those grass stamps too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenny, I thought the grass stamps would look cute on flower garden cards or as Easter basket grass.
DeleteNow I just have to go create cards:)
Thanks Tammy, it was fun, and I'm happy with my stamps:)
ReplyDeleteI have been dying to carve more stamps! Maybe over my Easter vacation week... Yours are just great! Isnt it a blast? Such a wonderful, creative sense of accomplishment follows...!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy, hope you're well.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing your creations!
Good work, Vicki! It looks like you no longer need that private lesson! LOL
ReplyDeleteWe can still get together for fun!
ReplyDeleteNow that you've started carving you won't be able to stop. It's so much fun. I like the way a hand made stamp oersonalizes your work so much more than a store stamp. You can also carve small stamps from those cheap white erasers. They are as easy to cut as the speedball easy carve and lots cheaper and because they are thick you can carve a stamp on both sides. They're great for small images and patterns.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is beautiful! Yes, I thought I'd try erasers next.
DeleteLooking forward to your posting.
I've been wanting to try making my own stamps but have been intimidated by the idea...thanks for breaking the barrier! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Melissa,
ReplyDeleteGive it a try, it's an inexpensive, easy craft.
Just be careful and don't cut towards yourself:)
Have fun,
Vicki
Such a good thing you posted this. Its given me the idea of making some stamps myself. Hmm...maybe I can use rubber erasers?
ReplyDeleteYes,I heard rubber erasers work well and are so inexpensive.
DeleteHi Vicki!
ReplyDeleteGreat stamps!
Will you believe that I bought the exact same kit a month ago and I haven't tried yet!
What's wrong with me right?
Thank You for the inspiration!
You do such beautiful work, I'm sure you'd come up with something fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWe all have projects in our heads, thanks to Tammy for getting us to do some of them:)
Love your stamps! I am just now getting around to visiting all of the challenge participants. Good luck!
ReplyDeletelovely stamps Vicki!
ReplyDeletei myself drool for a nice pink stuff...can you tell me a bit more where from and how much it is?it maybe not so expensive but it would cost me at least double the shipping i guess...
until then i play with erasers and homemade carving tools...it is fun anyway but not the same quality of course.keep it up!
