New Series

I worked on a new series of 7"x5" mixed media paintings this week.

I started off with bright Golden Golden Qor watercolours, and made large abstract paintings on watercolour paper.I added details with gel pens, ink, and markers.

I then cut these in 7"x5" pieces, and glued them with gel medium to wooden boards. When dry, I coated them with encaustic medium, and glued a hanger on the back.

Happy!

I was thrilled, when I heard from the Federation of Canadian Artists, that my 48"x48" acrylic painting "Light in Forest" sold in the Active Members Exhibition this week. It's difficult to see all the texture in the photo. It was one of my favourites, and I'm learning to let my babies leave the nest.
This was the second painting of mine they sold.

In November, at the Ten Squared Exhibition, they sold my "Spring Flowers" encaustic painting.
It is such a good feeling to be validated as an artist, that people I don't know like what I painted.

Inducted as an Active Member into the Federation of Canadian Artists

Recently I joined the Federation of Canadian Artists, and this week I was inducted as an Active Member. I'm quite excited to be accepted as a member of such a prestigious organization. Already I have benefited from an excellent workshop by Nicoletta Baumeister (AFCA) on abstract painting.
There are numerous exhibitions and workshops for members. I will be participating in two upcoming exhibitions.

On November 10th, I have two pieces in Ten Squared, a fundraising event for the Federation. Sales go online and in person on November 10-22nd. This is a chance to own some wonderful original art by talented artists. Here are my two Encaustic pieces for sale:

Spring Flowers - Encaustic, watercolour and collage

Ocean Beach - Encaustic and shellac burn

On January 5th-17th, I will have this piece in the Active Members Show.

Light in the Forest - 48"x48" mixed media
                                                  Hope you'll visit the exhibitions!

Art Commission

One of my dear friends commissioned me to make a painting for her daughter's wedding.

She had seen my dress series, and asked me to do a special one for her flower girl.

I loved doing this and spent extra time and care to make sure the sweet flower girl would be happy.

I was amazed to find that the real flower girl looked like the one in the painting, red hair and all!

Angelina loved the painting, she gave me a big hug and said purple was her favourite color.

Lake Balaton

One of the highlights of my trip was being invited to an artist friend's home in Lake Balaton, an hour train ride from Budapest. Judit Jancsco and I met on Facebook with our shared love of encaustic painting. Judit and her husband Steven, were incredible hosts, and I had a fantastic time. So much so, that I returned for a night before I left Budapest.
Lake Balaton, is the largest lake in Europe, and so beautiful. On my second trip, their lovely dog, Indiana Jones joined us, and  the uber talented Judit showed me some of her encaustic techniques.

Summer Adventure 2015

If you wondered why I haven't blogged in awhile it's because I've been on a great adventure!
Over six weeks of travel around Europe. My younger son, Trevor graduated at the end of June after over five years of hard work in Semmelweis Medical School in Budapest Hungary.
He did well in his exams and I'm very proud of him. It was great to attend his graduation ceremony and meet his wonderful friends from around the world. We celebrated with lovely lunches at Michelin Star restaurants, Onyx and Tanti. So reasonable for incredible food and service.

Onyx- Reindeer in wild cherry sauce

Salmon-Onyx
Budapest is one of my most favourite cities in Europe. It is so cosmopolitan, young at heart, and lively. It has grown in the years I've visited Trevor. There are outdoor restaurants and bars everywhere.
